A Pledge To My Temple

This excerpt is from the novel, Broken Open, by Elizabeth Lesser. Lesser is the co founder and senior adviser of Omega Institute, a retreat centre for spirituality, yoga, health and psychology.
Her book brought me great comfort. It contains dramatic stories of every day people who have risen up and out of challenging times.
Often when life throws us curve balls, it becomes so deeply embedded in our skin- in our insides- that it we accept it as part of ourselves. Digging it out may seem like more work then just leaving it and living in the pain and/or suffering. We then are stuck in the congested box which the bad pitch forced us in.
To heal in a healthy manner Lesser teaches, what she calls, "The Phoenix Process". The following paragraph doesn't relate specifically to her technique, yet it simply inspires one to love themselves and to cherish every inch of the body and sacred temple.
Enjoy xo

~I have fallen in love with heart and lungs. While I am here, contained within bones and muscles, organs and skin, I want to take care of the gift of my body. I want to feed it well, move it gracefully, and rest it deeply. I know that the life force beats on, even when the heart has stopped, but while I have a heart and lungs, I want to treat them with SACRED AWE. And while I dwell with others who are JUST LIKE ME, I want to see them for who they really are, in all of their fragility and all of their majesty~

HELPING HANDS: How To Partner Assist

Sunday, March 25th I'll be holding a workshop at Unity Yoga from 1:30-3:30pm. The cost is $25 and that will cover all the fun and knowledge to be had ;)
Helping Hands is not an acro yoga, or partner yoga workshop. Although there will be poses performed in pairs, the intention is to provide support to go deeper.
The best part will be connecting with each other: strangers, friends, lovers, teacher, student, kula, community! Connecting can be quite scary but in the coziness of the studio, we'll provide a safe place to open up-emotionally and physically ;)
From handstand help, to subtle savasana adjustments, you'll gain the confidence to spot with conscious, nurturing hands.
This workshop is perfect for teachers, as well as students looking to take their practice to the next step.
Laughing is guaranteed, you're inner child will appear, you'll make a few new friends, and if you don't fall in love with yoga, I'll give you your money back :)
To sign up please email me at mlemillen@yahoo.com, or phone/ visit the studio at, 1672 10th Ave E 2nd floor Vancouver, BC V5N 1X5

AMAZING GRACE

~~~~ I found this on the face of a bottle of body wash, in my in-laws shower today. It made my shower; it made my day~~~~~
" life is a classroom. we are both student and teacher. each day is a test, and each day we receive a passing or failing grade in one particular subject: GRACE. grace is compassion, gratitude, surrender, faith, forgiveness, good manners, reverence and the list goes on. it's something money can't buy and credentials rarely produce. being the smartest, the prettiest, the most talented, the richest or even the poorest can't help. being a humble person can, and being a helpful person can guide you through your days with grace and gratitude."
Upcoming Workshop Reminder
Merry Chistmas Yogis
This is just a quick reminder of the 2 workshops I'm holding in the next few weeks.
The first is this Wed, Dec 21st at Hot Yoga Peterborough, starting at 4:30pm, in Peterborough Ontario. Suggested $5 drop in fee which will go towards a shower for the studio. It's a 75min Power/Vinyasa workshop and we may even kick it up a notch with some invertions!
If you live in Vancouver and want to step it up a bit too, I'll be focusing on upside down poses in a 2 hour workshop, at Unity Yoga. This will take place Sun, Jan 8th, from 1:30pm-3:30pm, and the cost is $25.00
Unity Yoga is a beautiful, intimate studio that only holds 15 people, so please email info@unityyoga.ca to reserve your spot.
Bring a pen and paper, as we'll be tackling some of the emotions that are associated with inversions.
AND please take a look at my updated schedule for the New Year :)
Wishing you a cozy, homey, Christmas filled with love !!!!
Namaste all the way,
EMILY
