RABBIT HOLE

This movie was moving, beautiful, raw, emotional, real. See it ! Nicole Kidman is outstanding and I believe could have been the runner up for the Oscar.
Originally turned off by the topic of grief and loss, it's worth diving into as the water is warm and safe to drink.
~ Curl up with some tea, light a candle, grab some tissues and relish in this beauty~
~Enjoy xo~

Case Closed: Finally Closing the Albums Case

My band and I have slowly been plugging away at our 9 track album, for the last 2 years. Greg Monforton, our talented bass player, piano player, guitar player, has been producing and recording each of our varied tracks, which makes for a longer process. But this also means that we've had time to pour extra cups of love into it, and finally we're close to our baby bird leaving the nest. She's flown away for mixing, and we're so very excited for you to hear her beautiful chirps and tweets.
It's often difficult to keep our momentum because the band has other hobbies, which includes acting, nannying, sound production, yogaing, other band jamming, etc. However lately we've been plugging away nicely. We still have a long way to go, but I've always had faith we'd mature beautifully only when fully ready, not to be pushed by outside forces.
Recently we climbed the Chief, in Squamish. Reaching 2,000ft, at the top of the 1st peak, we recorded "The Jesus Song", for the Peak Performance Project contest. Greg proposed this idea almost a year ago. I remember forcing a smile, and saying, " Yah... that'd be cool." Inside I was of course thinking of the work it'd take, and quickly ruled it out within milliseconds.
But one thing you should know about Greg is that he gets shit done. He spent time in the army and hangs on very tightly to that lifestyle. As much as we joke about being under his strict colonel hand, his ways have definitely maintained our momentum.
Actually the 2hr+ hike was easier then we thought, thanks to our wonderful volunteers. To be honest I think my trek was the most difficult. I carried the bells, which look like a heavy, overly large and awkward suitcase. Because the climb was so steep, every step required a bicep curl of that jingling jackass.
Half way up we ran into hikers who worked for The Georgia Straight newspaper. Curious as to why we were lugging guitars, mics, stands, and a DOUBLE BASE, we stopped for a little interview and video shoot, which later showed up on their site. The rest of the hike we were shaking our heads at the publicity luck we had.
At the top I couldn't help but thank Greg over and over, for seeing his insane vision through. This was my first time at the top. I felt a bit sick to my stomach at the height, but marveled at the beauty that surrounded me. The snow capped mountains, lake and tiny town below looked like a painting, and I kept wanting to reach out a grab a handful of it all.
I think the toughest part of this whole journey was fighting chattering teeth and numb fingers, during the hour shoot. IT WAS FREEZING!!!!!!!!!!! I kept praying that we didn't look miserable through the lens. I don't think we'd re-schedule a re-shoot for blue lips.
After 2 weeks of editing, by director Mike Jackson, the video is out and we actually look quite peppy, thank goodness:)
Take a look, and stay tuned for the release of 4 Years Apart, due out early July, with a CD release party to follow!
Enjoy...xo

A Poem for Earth Day

~ I was sad one day and went for a walk; I sat in a field.
A rabbit noticed my condition and came near.
It often does not take more than that to help at times-to just be close to creatures who are so full of knowing, so full of love
that they don't chat.
They just gaze with their marvelous understanding~ St. John of the Cross

Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu- May all beings be happy and free, and may my actions contribute to this.

May you do something to honour the earth today. Notice that the wisdom and beauty you'll find, can also be discovered in your self.

HAPPY EARTH DAY EVERYONE!

Playlist for Thurs April 14th

A good little blast of tunes, for an hour power. Starts with an electronic/Indian morph, moves into feel good electronic beats, slows down to loose reggae, right down to acoustic, and ends with a classic 70's folk tune. Don't ask me how I made it flow but it actually worked! Enjoy

Epic -
Karsh Kale
Finally Moving -Pretty Lights
Separator- Radiohead
Switch Up- Pretty Lights
Finley Quay
This World- Zero 7
The Nest - Jose Gonzalez
Which Will- Nick Drake

P.S. Radiohead's new album, "King of Limbs" is so magical. It's a great Alice in Wonderland like adventure. The beats are perfect for an upbeat class, and the 6th and 7th songs are savasana gems. One student said that "Codex" (the 6th) made her feel like she was swimming. "Lotus Flower" fits Surya Namaskar's constant flow and carefree nature. I made a joke that the song also went well with making love;) And later discovered that often the pulsation of Sun Salutation resembles the same rhythm as sex. No? Yes? Anyone with me on that one? Think about it next time !!!

Bloggers Block

I love to write. You'd think that blogging would be the perfect way to re-visit my favourite subject in school, however this site has left me with a sore jaw. I've been resisting this page, gripping every time I'd visit it. I suppose it's because I'm not quite sure of the rules. But that's just it...blogging is supposed to be very hippie, and liberating. Spelling doesn't even count, the shorter the sentences the better, sloppy fingers&29.... , nobody is marking this shit.. can you swear? Arg.. rules, back to the rules. Type A man, type A.
I guess I'm finding blogging like journaling, and that's comforting for me. On the other hand, it's not like writing in your diary at all. People are reading, and my inner critique comes out. My scenario gets even more complicated, as I've included a blog on my yoga site, my professional, "work related" site. So should I keep my posts limited to insights, knowledge, and quotes only directed towards yoga? But then I feel my 6th chakra gripping up at the thought of this limitation. Will letting it all hang out ever put a future job on the line? To be silenced, but allow others to feel comfortable, or do I rip off my pencil skirt, and loosen the tight bun, to risk loosing a few?
I remember yoga teacher, Sadie Nardini, saying, "Hell yes, I want to work barefoot". This is my work, and I'm grateful. I can hit the pavement, join the daily grind, but do it without covering the soles of my feet. I get paid to maintain authentic connections! The more I discover who I am honestly, the better guide I will be for others, and the work will take care of itself.
So as of today, I've made a promise that no matter who I'm directing to this site, it will make no difference on what I write. Anything I'm moved to share, I will post. For part of my job is to always remember Satya (truth), to remember to inspire, and to remind others, and myself, to never sensor your light. Especially from those ones you fear blinding the most!
This blog is for me, but this blog is for you. What's the difference anyhow?
Consider my blogging block unclogged!
